Texas Theater This is a three-story brick building, one of three in Smithville. It was completed in 1907 for the furniture store of Rabb amp; McCollum on the first floor and their undertaking on the second floor. For years an unclaimed body was kept in a coffin on display in the upstairs funeral parlor. Local boys used quot;the mummyquot; to scare newcomers. A hardware store and a meat market have also been on the lower floor. In 1930, the Texas Theater opened, and a movie house survived here until 1970. The rear of the building was office space from 1910 to 1962. Source of Information: quot;Smithville Then and Nowquot;, by Valerie Johnson of the SHS
