Jackson Streetbr/ br/ Artist: Dayton Wodrichbr/ Date: 1997br/ Text: Located across the street from the First National Bank. The inset shows the First National Bankrsquo;s original building built in 1902, with a collage of activities financed by the bank. The bank has promoted many endeavors in this community. The ethnic Group pictured are portraits of persons who have served this community, but represent only a minority of the ethnic groups making up El Campo. The Chinese were among the first to plant rice. The Hispanic influence has always been here with the Mexican (Vaqueros) herding cattle even before Prairie Switch. Gene Benavidezrsquo;s first loan was from the bank. His grandfather lived in Victoria amp; rode the train every Saturday to Prairie Switch. The black man, Clarence Young was a familiar face at the bank for many years doing maintenance work. The bank is proud to have supported these businesses and persons for nearly a century. Comments: The mural is in bad shape and peeling from the wall. Datebr/ br/ Photographed: 20-12-24
