Cisternbr/ Fayette County, Texasbr/ 29 49.252' N 97 13.579' Wbr/ br/ Mr. Adolph Plentl came to Mexico with the French under Emperor Maximilian and worked his way to Texas. He was a farmer and a musician; and with his two sons had an old-time band. It was he who in the late 1800's started the Harmonie Verein club and with neighbors built the original gathering hall. The club soon became the social center of the Cistern community. In 1948, a reorganization resulted in a new structure being built using surplus materials from WWII Camp Swift; and the name changed to the Cistern Recreation Club with eighteen prominent citizens being stockholders, including the Sts. Cyril amp; Methodius Catholic Church. In recent years, the property changed ownership and the structure is currently unused.
