Devinebr/ Medina County, Texasbr/ 29 08.497' N 98 54.512' Wbr/ br/ Saint Joseph Church 1897-1997 Reverend Mathias Metzinger was the founder of St. Joseph Catholic Church. The original wood frame was built on this property 100 feet due south from this spot in 1897. The parish was organized in the fall of 1896 with eight families. The parish soon grew too large for the original church. A larger native white limestone church with a steeple was erected at this site in 1922. The original bell (inscribed 1897) which originally hung in the old church is now hanging in the steeple of this church. Today the parish consists of 670 families. Reverend Clement de Meersman, C.I.C.M. leads the Parish into the next centennial and millennium.
