FRIEDRICH AIR CONDITION CO. Ed Friedrich started his business in 1883, producing handcrafted products including store fixtures, wood billiard tables and fine-carved cabinetry. Eventually phasing out these products, he turned to refrigeration. After a fire in 1923, the plan was relocated from Cherry to E. Commerce Street. It became one of the world’s largest manufacturers of commercial refrigeration equipment, and in 1952 began producing room air conditioners. Friedrich stayed active in the business almost to the day he died in 1956.
